About the 9:00 am Sunday Traditional Service

This service is for those who prefer a more formal praise worship experience, that includes traditional hymns with organ accompaniment.  This service usually includes a children’s moment.   Also, through out the year the Chancel Choir, Bell Choir, Kid’s Choir, and special music/vocal performances add to the inspiration of this service.

About the 11:00 am Sunday Contemporary Service

This service is for those who enjoy a more upbeat, contemporary sound of Christian praise music.  The atmosphere is more laid back and less formal than the 9:00 am service.  This service usually includes a children’s moment and the Kid’s Choir also sings at this service.  Music is provided each week by the Praise Band;  a group of  10 or more members that includes singers, guitars, drums, brass, and keyboard.

Holy Communion

Holy Communion is celebrated at both services on the first Sunday of every month, as well as on Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday, and Easter.  In the United Church of Christ, we celebrate an open communion table which means anyone, regardless of denomination, who accepts Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, is welcome to receive the elements of communion.  Jesus is the head of our church and Jesus does not turn anyone away.

We celebrate Communion on the 1st Sunday of every month

9:00 am traditional service:  pew communion (trays are passed)

11:00 am contemporary service:  alter communion (coming forward)

Nursery

A nursery  for infants and toddlers is adjacent to the sanctuary with nursery attendants to help care for your child.  If you have need of this service, let the church office know so that we can be sure to have proper supervision for your loved one.

Accessibility

The present sanctuary was built in 1939.  Since then, Friedens has made various modifications to its facilities to make it assessable to people with physical disabilities.  Presently, the following options are available for easier access to the sanctuary:

  1. A ramp in the front (south side) of the church leads to the main doors.
  2. A lift is attached to the east side of the church tower and takes individuals directly into the sanctuary.
  3. Just inside the sidewalk level, south doors is a lift that can move individuals up the staircase to the sanctuary level or down to the fellowship hall level.
  4. For those just going to the fellowship hall, use the west entrance.

Special Celebrations and Observances

Although EVERY Sunday, at Friedens is important, special celebrations and observances include, but are not limited to,  Advent, Lent, Easter, confirmation, and Pentecost.  On Easter, the chancel is filled with Easter Lilies, colorful banners, and joyous music to  praise the risen Christ.  On Pentecost, the color red, the color of celebration, is emphasized in recognition of the birth of the Christian church.  Particularly impressive is the beauty of the sanctuary during Advent with its garland, poinsettias, banners, nativity, Advent Wreath, Chrismon Tree, and the sound of carols helping set an inspiring atmosphere for celebrating Christ’s birth.
